- A descriptive cataloging standard released in 1978 that provides guidelines and instructions on formulating bibliographic data for libraries and cultural heritage organizations. The predecessor to RDA.
- API (Application Programming Interface)

MARC-8: The legacy 8-bit encoding standard used to represent Latin, Greek, Arabic, Hebrew, and East Asian characters via escape sequences. 2. UTF-8 (Unicode): The modern, universal standard that assigns a unique code point to every character in every language, facilitating global data exchange.

Typically hosted on local or vendor servers and built to manage physical library collections. The predecessor to LSPs. Examples include SirsiDynx’s Symphony and Evergreen, an open source ILS.
- LSP (Library Services Platform)
- A cloud-based, integrated system that unifies library management functions such as cataloging, circulation, acquisitions, and user services, enabling more efficient and flexible library operations. Examples include Ex Libris’s Alma, OCLC’s WorldShare, and open source solutions like Folio.
- MARC (Machine-Readable Cataloging)
- A standard format for the representation and exchange of bibliographic and related information in a machine-readable form. Commonly used in libraries for cataloging materials.
- MARC 21
- A specific MARC format developed and maintained by the Library of Congress, designed to support bibliographic data exchange between library systems.
- OAI (Open Archives Initiative)
- A framework for facilitating metadata harvesting using the OAI-PMH (Protocol for Metadata Harvesting) standard, enabling interoperability between digital repositories.
- RDA (Resource Description and Access)
- A descriptive cataloging standard released in 2010 that provides guidelines and instructions on formulating bibliographic data for libraries and cultural heritage organizations.
- Regex (Regular Expressions)
